Welcome to Camasonia.
Think of it as an illustrated, poetic ode to our beloved community. It’s also a call to action.
Whether a lifer or new to the area, you might agree that this place we call home is changing.
But we residents have a say as to whether it changes for the better or for the worse.
And the best way to have a say is to get connected, share ideas, and stick together.
Last month I started Camas Coffee Club because our family moved here during lockdowns and we never got a chance to meet our neighbors or local business owners.
It’s a bigger success than even I imagined (nearly 50 members!) and I’m certain even more folks will join us as they learn about it.
But one thing that comes up time and again is that while there are several news outlets in the area, there’s not much ‘for Camas, by Camas’.
So what if we leverage the momentum of our coffee meetups to launch a community-run newsletter that surfaces important news and events we need to know each week?
What should that look like?
— 5 things you need to know each Mon+Thurs?
— Comic strip about Camas happenings?
— Deep dive investigations on critical issues?
— Interviews with folks who shaped our town?
— Something else?
Feel free to comment below or reply directly.
I’d also love your ideas and inspiration on other people, places, or events to draw as I expand my digital painting series on Camas and the Gorge.
As a token of appreciation, for signing up and contributing, I want to gift you art postcards from my collection… including this new piece above that I haven’t shared anywhere else.
You can choose whether to keep them or send/share them with friends and fam.
