Hey, it’s Ry.
What an electrifying weekend! I can feel the electricity in the air—neighbor meeting neighbor, hands shaking, voices rising. Here’s the rundown.
🌧️ Feel-Good Friday at Doc Harris
Rain couldn’t dampen our spirits. Over 300 business cards found their way into new hands, even as umbrellas and rain jackets went up. And then, there was this 13-year-old fan of my TikToks. He’s already using his voice to impact his family—they’re voting this year, thanks to him. Rain or shine, Camas is waking up.
🍩 Soulful Saturday at Crown Park
Sun came out, and so did the coffee, donuts, and homemade bread—kudos to our tireless volunteers. We also had an impromptu masterclass in community outreach. Takeaway: Never hesitate to ask for the support your vision needs.
💡 Rethinking Campaign Norms
Noticed the explosions of political signage from other candidates? Now you might have a better understanding for why mine were so unconventional. Or as one neighbor said, “confounding!” 😹 Because it was never about me. It’s always been about what matters to you. About the future of Camas. So while the name’s bigger now so folks know who to vote for, let’s take ego out and put Camas first.
🏘️ Saturday’s Neighborhood Rounds
We took that Crown Park energy to the streets, hitting 100 homes from Riverview Bank on 3rd to Lacamas, hitting all the doors along 1st and 2nd south of Safeway. And guess what? Folks are eager for a shift, shedding disillusionment, and waking up to a big idea. Your voice still matters in shaping our city's future.
🌳 Special Note: Acorn & The Oak
Unsurprisingly, many folks wanted to discuss the Everett St Corridor expansion. People in Camas feel a special kind of love for Acorn—Janessa and Chuck's restaurant and floral shop. We were there their opening weekend. We ordered takeout during Covid. It’s where our daughter first ate out at a restaurant. Many of you have positive memories there, too, and we've all seen the hard work they've put in and the unique touch they've added to our city.
Instead of hurdles, let’s offer them the support they deserve. If you haven’t already, please go write to our city councilors and let them know how you feel about how they’re treating small businesses here in Camas.
🚴 New Angles
Speaking of Everett, our listening tours always teach me something new. And while knocking I learned from a few local cyclists that the proposed elevated bike path for the road expansion might need a rethink, as it’ll be unusable for athletes biking on the road at speeds up to 25mph. Took notes to widen the conversation.
☀️ Supercharged Sunday
We rounded out the weekend by knocking on more than 500 doors after church this Sunday. Split into three teams, from Green Mountain to Woodburn, Camas is ready for change. One woman was so inspired she hit the road with volunteers!
🕒 Time's Ticking, but We've Got This
We all know time is our scarcest resource. October is here. Ballots arrive in three weeks. And my calendar is jam-packed with events. I've personally knocked on ~1,250 doors (not counting meetups). And by election day, I'll have doubled that.
My stretch goal was 4000. But let’s be real. Alone, I just can’t reach that. But with your help, if a few of you rise to the occasion, then it becomes not just doable but a breeze. Imagine an hour of your time—when you have it—to knock 5-10 doors.
I can't stress this enough: I need you.
In some cases, I know this town has made it difficult for you to speak your mind and be yourself. So maybe all you can do is vote (quietly). And that’s OK. ❤️
But if we don't step up, nothing changes. Every proposed plan get a rubber-stamp. And that’ll be all she wrote. So I'm asking you to step up and be the change with me. To knock on doors in your neighborhood and tell them why. Say, 'Ry sent me.' Because really and truly, together we can be the change we seek in Camas.
